Somatic Movement Education (SME) 500 hour Certification Program
Experiential Learning and Embodiment

Body-Mind Centering courses bring awareness to all of the body systems through somatic exercises. We work with the belief that new experiences and learning on a body level (embodiment) can open us to
new mind states. As we experience different body-mind states and movement patterns we can open to changes and new possibilities within and around us. Exploring in this way is how we enter the BMC embodiment process.

SOMATIC MOVEMENT EDUCATION (SME) covers developmental movement and an experiential study of the body systems to understand their manifestation in body-mind patterns. This revolutionary approach is based on our very own sensory experience and explores the richness of our body-mind relationship. You will learn to apply movement, imagery, sound and touch as tools to significantly deepen your somatic knowledge and expand your practice and teaching.

BMC principles and methods of creative investigation and practical skill can be applied to educational, medical, therapeutic, artistic, and health professions such as massage and body therapies in addition to movement disciplines (dance, theater, yoga, martial arts, athletics) and personal growth.

SME student, Celine Louis' Testimonial:
I completed the BMC Ligamentous System in NC during the summer of 2010 with core faculty:
Maryska Bigos, Bob Lehnberg, and Janice Geller. This was the best and deepest experience in my 2 years of BMC training as a Somatic Movement Educator. I felt the teachers were extremely experienced at leading us into explorations, giving care to the amount of anatomical knowledge I needed to nourish my eager brain while at the same time encouraging us to dive deeply into our sensations. Maryska was the teacher of some of my European BMC teachers and carries in her thirty years of embodied BMC experience a great intelligence. Moreover, taking individual sessions with her has really been a blessing for me.Her availability and generosity allowed me to learn about myself and her suggestions have been so appropriate for me. The whole faculty demonstrated their numerous years of practicing and teaching BMC by the way they expertly perceived what the group and individuals needed to move along the process of embodiment! I just want to say THANKS again to the team for the laughter, the tears, dances, support, dedication to somatic knowledge and most of all their love of this work that they shared with us.
