Infant Developmental Movement Educator
(IDME)

Facilitating Development of the First Year of Life

Engaging the whole child in the first year of life is crucial in the development of the child and the adult the child will become. During this time, the infant is organizing information and forming the patterns of movement and perception upon which they will build their relationships to self, others, and the world around them. Facilitating development during the span of the first year can greatly enhance the child's physical, emotional and intellectual abilities.

Extraordinary learning is possible when the person the child is, is met. This program is based on BMC principles and methods of how to meet and engage the child to facilitate change rather than making the problem, interaction or treatment the focus.

Infant Developmental Movement Education (IDME) offers an exploration of the senses and how first year movement sequences emerge. In the four (4) required courses: Senses and Perceptions (S&P), Basic Neurological Patterns (BNP), Basic Reflexes, Righting Reactions and Equilibrium Responses (RRR) and Ontogenetic Development students discover their own developmental foundation and how it influences their physical and psychological evolution. This approach provides deep insight and the facilitation of a broad range of choices for educators to reach their full potential.

The IDME 1 & 2 programs are a sophisticated and subtle approach to first IDME 1 - The Observation and then, IDME 2 - The Facilitation of Normal Infants. It is designed to teach educators to entice choices and influence normal development in infants and toddlers by encouraging an embracing,
child-centered approach. The intent of BMC is to set a foundation that supports the infant's pathways of ease, strength, agility and adaptability and avoid restrictive patterns of movement that inhibit the development of their full sensory and movement potential.

  • The Infant Developmental Movement Education (IDME) program is for those who are new to working with infants and toddlers or those who are already in early childhood education and day-care centers including occupational, physical, speech, and auditory therapists as well as social work professionals.  It is for parents, caregivers and grandparents as well as those working in the fields of movement, bodywork, martial arts, massage, sports, dance, yoga, and gymnastics that want to expand their understanding of sensory and motor development.
